New CQC Registration Requirements for Oral Health Services (From May 2026)

From 5 May 2026, oral health providers will need to submit additional documentation as part of their Care Quality Commission (CQC) registration applications.

The aim is to speed up application reviews by giving inspectors the information they need up front, but it also means providers must be more prepared before submitting.

What’s Changing?

Alongside the standard documents required for all regulated services, oral health providers must now include service-specific evidence at the point of application.

New Documents Required

From May 2026, you must include:

  • Critical examination and acceptance test reports
  • Fire risk assessment
  • HSE ionising radiations regulations registration
  • Health and safety risk assessment
  • Legionella risk assessment
  • LOLER certificate (if applicable)
  • Radiography risk assessment and Local Rules

You’ll also need to complete a new oral health services application form.

These requirements place a stronger emphasis on safety, radiography compliance, and environmental risk management.

What This Means for Providers

This change reflects a clear expectation: your service should be fully prepared and compliant at the point of application.

That means:

  • Completing risk assessments early
  • Ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date
  • Aligning policies with real-world practice

Getting It Right First Time

A complete, well-evidenced application reduces delays and builds confidence with the regulator from the outset.

If you’re preparing to register or vary your service, now is the time to review your documentation and make sure nothing is missing.
