CQC registration support

Get your CQC application right, first time

For new health and social care providers. Prepare your application, policies and interview answers with clinicians and compliance specialists who know what CQC looks for.

What is CQC registration?

CQC registration is the legal approval a provider needs before carrying on a regulated activity in England: doing so unregistered is an offence under section 10 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008. You apply with details of the provider, its regulated activities and locations, and CQC registers you only when you show fitness and compliance with the regulations.

How we help

A CQC application needs to be complete and accurate, and backed by the documents and information CQC expects. CQC asks applicants to complete the application themselves and rejects incomplete applications, so our job is to make sure what you submit is ready: every supporting document in place, and a submission that clearly reflects the service you are setting up.

We have supported hundreds of successful registrations across primary care, independent healthcare and adult social care. Our team includes clinicians, a former CQC Specialist Advisor and compliance specialists who stay with you from the first scoping call to the Nominated Individual and Registered Manager interview.

  • Nominated Individual and Registered Manager interview coaching
  • Guidance on CQC expectations for GP practices, clinics, ambulance services, domiciliary care and care homes
  • A final check that your application is complete before it goes to CQC

How registration works with us

  1. Scope your service

We confirm the regulated activities, the right legal entity and what CQC will expect for your service type.

  2. Prepare the application

Your Statement of Purpose and policy set prepared with you, and your application checked against CQC guidance before you submit it.

  3. Prepare for interview

Interview coaching for the Nominated Individual and Registered Manager so you walk in ready.

Policies and procedures for CQC registration

New providers need tailored policies and procedures in place before they apply. Typical areas include safeguarding, infection prevention and control, medicines management, incident reporting, complaints handling and governance.

Our in-house Clinical Policies team writes bespoke policies and procedures for providers entering the sector, from GP practices, NHS and private hospitals and specialist clinics to ambulance services and adult social care. You get a full suite of clinical, HR and management policies, tailored and branded to your service, with a dedicated Policy Manager and access through HLTH Manage.

Preparing for the CQC registration interview

Once your application passes CQC's initial checks, the assessment may include a fit person interview, a site visit and a discussion with the Nominated Individual. A well-prepared Nominated Individual and Registered Manager make a real difference at this stage.

Our interview preparation covers the roles and responsibilities of each post, the key documents in your application and the likely lines of CQC questioning, with mock interview scenarios so both people go in confident.

Check your readiness before you apply

Before you submit, we can run a structured pre-registration compliance review or mock inspection. It checks your governance, systems, evidence and documentation against the regulations, identifies gaps and gives you structured recommendations to close them before CQC reviews your application.

Help with CQC registration: common questions

Can you help with CQC registration?
Yes. We help new providers prepare the documents behind the application, including the Statement of Purpose and policies and procedures, check that the application is complete before it goes in, and prepare the Nominated Individual and Registered Manager for CQC's interview. CQC asks applicants to complete the application form themselves, so you stay the applicant throughout.
Who needs to register with CQC?
Any individual, partnership or organisation that carries on a regulated activity in England must be registered with CQC. There are 14 regulated activities, including personal care, treatment of disease, disorder or injury, diagnostic and screening procedures, and transport services, triage and medical advice provided remotely. CQC's scope of registration guidance sets out each one.
How long does CQC registration take?
CQC says registration can take a few months. The time depends on the type of service and how complete your application is, because CQC rejects incomplete applications. We track current timescales across the applications we support, so ask us on the call.
When should I submit my CQC application?
Only when everything is in place to start providing the service, including your locations and staff. CQC says it cannot hold applications that are not ready. Before applying you also need a DBS check for your main point of contact, your registered manager arrangements and your supporting documents.
Do I need a Registered Manager before applying for CQC registration?
In most cases, yes. Organisations and partnerships must register one or more managers, as must individuals who will not run the regulated activity day to day. The manager forms go in with the provider application, and CQC will normally interview the Registered Manager.
Can you guarantee CQC registration?
No. No one can guarantee a regulator's decision. CQC registers a provider only when it is satisfied on fitness and compliance with the regulations. What we can do is help you submit a complete, accurate application and prepare your team for the interview.
